The Supplier Development Specialist will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and developing suppliers in Mexico to support U.S. operations. This role is critical in ensuring that suppliers meet quality, cost, and delivery expectations. The individual will work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, quality, and procurement to drive continuous improvement and establish strategic supplier relationships.
Principal Responsibilities
- Supplier Identification & Evaluation:
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers in Mexico to support U.S. company needs
- Conduct supplier audits and assessments to evaluate capabilities, quality standards, and performance
- Supplier Development:
- Work closely with suppliers to improve processes, product quality, and delivery performance
- Provide technical support and guidance to suppliers to meet U.S. company standards and expectations
- Develop and implement supplier improvement plans, focusing on quality, cost reduction, and lead-time improvements
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with U.S. stakeholders, including procurement, engineering, and quality teams to ensure alignment on supplier performance and development needs
- Communicate supplier performance metrics and improvement initiatives to U.S.-based teams
- Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks related to supplier performance, capacity, and compliance
- Develop contingency plans to address potential disruptions in the supply chain
- Cost Management:
- Support cost reduction initiatives by identifying and developing suppliers capable of providing high-quality materials and services at competitive costs
- Supplier Relationship Management:
- Establish long-term relationships with key suppliers to drive innovation, continuous improvement, and competitive advantage
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers, ensuring alignment with U.S. business needs
Qualification and Experience Requirements
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience in a technical l/manufacturing environment may be acceptable
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in supplier development, quality engineering, or procurement, preferably within a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment. Experience working with international suppliers and supporting U.S.-based operations.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of supplier development methodologies and quality improvement tools
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work cross-culturally
- Problem-solving mindset with experience in root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Fluency in both English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate technical and business requirements clearly
- Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 50%)
- Comply with all safety rules, regulations, and Mexico's Occupational Health and Safety Standards requirements
