Tool Room Supervisor
Position Summary: Responsible for managing the tool room personnel and ensuring that the repair / build / maintenance of the equipment and it meet our standards.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:
- Degree: Mechanical, Industrial, Electroemechanical or Mechatronic Engineer. Master's Degree in Engineering with 0-3 years of professional engineering experience preferred.
- Experience (Industry, position): 3-5 years experience in Tool Room Leadership that involved supervisory responsibilities..
- Languages: English business level.
- Software: AutoCAD, Solid Works, Fikus, Office and some ERP.
Preferred Capabilities:
- Technicall Skills: Experience within Metal-Mechanic Industry, automotive related field preferred and shop floor environment.
- Process of mechanized: lathe, milling machine, grinding machine.
- Knolowdege in PP Dies, cutoffs and Rollform tooling.
- Fundamental understanding of statistics (SPC, etc.).
- Six Sigma process.
- Innovative problem-solving capabilities.
- Journeyman toolmaker preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing methods preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Considerable experience/skills in automated manufacturing systems.
- Proven ability to motivate staff and build self-esteem.
- Well organized and even temperament to meet dynamic nature of manufacturing.
Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following:
- Ensure dies, toolligns and equipment are repaired, built and maintained to meet Shape Corporate Safety standards.
- Staff Management:
- Conduct timely and complete performance evaluations of direct associates; and ensure timely and complete performance evaluation of associates reporting under your indirect supervision
- Assess subordinates skill sets, current and future development needs and take steps to mentor and develop them appropriately
- Set direction of department and hold individuals accountable to performance standard and strategic objectives
- Interact and relate with associates and customers at all levels.
- Manage multiple activities efficiently and simultaneously, achieving excellent results.
- Analyze manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Work in conjunction with Production Managers, Manufacturing Engineers and various levels of manufacturing associates to improve a variety of equipment, including but not limited to: dies, mills, molds, secondary equipment, presses and specialized equipment.
- Work with manufacturing to ensure die repairs, and maintenance work is completed timely.
- Maintain high level of accuracy/timing when purchasing spare parts and equipment.
- Identify and train a back-up(s) to manage key tasks when absent.
- Read and interpret CAD data, red pen drawings, blueprints, GD&T, CMM reports, customer dimensional specifications.
- Share lessons learned proactively and also train other engineers on process improvments.
- Provide process design and improvements in a cost efficient manner.
- Responsible for safety in process design and in execution of daily activities.
- Ensure compliance of practices, procedures and instructions relative to applicable corporate standards (ISO, IATF/AIAG, etc).
- Ensure quality outputs from daily activities.
- Ensure timely execution of planned activities.
- Foster good working relationship and demonstrate effective communication skills with vendors, team members, suppliers and project teams.
- Capable of independent decision making.
- Proven ability to report work status concisely to leadership.
- Use scientific method for problem solving.
- Anticipate and recognize the existence of a problem; use original analyses and generate new, innovate ideas.
- Commit to a solution in a timely manner and develop a realistic approach for implementing a solution.

- Launch & Manufacturing Support
- Support manufacturing production by leading troubleshooting regarding tooling when is required.
- Support continuous improvement activities.
- Support plant problem solving teams to ensure the production of quality parts and a safe working environment.
- Participate in regular launch team meetings.
- Lead technical solutions and provide input and support for tool designs and development.
- Provide the specification for and procure capital needed to support new business.
- Communicate and share information with peers to ensure launching practices are standard.
- New Business Pursuit
- Lead activities associated with winning new business.
- Provide quotes of Dies and tooling.
- Identify opportunities to reduce quoting, feasibility and PPTAR times.
- Communicate and share information with global peers to ensure quoting practices are standard.
- Engage in investigation of methods to achieve a competitive process and “win” business.
- Process Advancement
- Lead strategic process advancement projects (“Funnel Projects”).
- Develop specifications for new capital equipment.
- Identify new technology, develop expertise and industry knowledge in relevant processes and communicate to the organization as necessary.
- Advanced Process Development
- Define new opportunities in rollform processes to reduce cost or increase design flexibility.
- Brainstorm, explore and objectively evaluate manufacturing processes and technologies that could add value to the organization.
- Develop new manufacturing technologies integrated with manufacturing process using FMEA, SPC, DFSS, DVPR and others and conduct all testing necessary to validate the new technology.
- Attend and participate in domestic and global conferences and seminars on structural engineering, materials and manufacturing.
- Work with the Business Unit teams and their customers to develop relationships and gain confidence in Shape's abilty to process advanced materials.
- Express thoughts clearly and present technical details of our design concepts, materials and processing technologies.
- Support day to day problem solving with the Product Engineers & Manufacturing as needed.
This position is responsable for the following KPI's:
- Scrap - Reduction
- OEE - Increase
- Downtine - Reduction
