Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze the existing VB4 architecture and identify dependencies and risks. ( Desired )
- Develop a migration strategy to upgrade VB4 code to .NET Core while retaining existing functionality.
- Refactor and rewrite legacy code as needed to meet modern development standards.
- Use tools such as Visual Basic Upgrade Companion (VBUC), Visual Studio Migration Wizard, and other relevant migration tools.
- Configure ODBC connections and ensure database communication remains intact with minimal change.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to test and validate the new .NET Core application.
- Troubleshoot any issues during migration, testing, and deployment phases.
Document the migration process, including technical specifications and changes made
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in software development, specifically with Visual Basic 4/6 and .NET technologies.
- Strong experience with VB6, VB NET, and .NET Core 3.1/5/6/7.
- Familiarity with desktop applications development and deployment processes.
- Experience working with ODBC drivers and database connections.
- Knowledge of Windows environments, including shared network drives.
- Proficiency in modernizing legacy code and understanding design patterns.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
