Process Quality Engineer - Welding
This candidate will be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of quality assurance processes. Throughout the implementation and maintenance process, this candidate should use data analysis to better understand quality reporting measures and improve processes.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:
- 3+ years of automotive quality engineering preferred.
- Customer specific Requirements & Program Development experience (e.g.: AIAG, PPAP, Process Flow & Control Plans) and Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO9001 & IATF-16949).
- Metal mechanics and welding process experience.
- Knowledge in Spot / Mig Welding.
- Knowledge in VDA 6.5, D/TLD
Preferred capabilities:
1. Proficient with Microsoft Applications (e.g. word, excel, outlook, etc).
2. MiniTab

Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following:
- Participate in the development and maintenance of institutionalized quality systems (e.g. IATF, ISO, VDA)
- Maintain Control Plans, Work and Gage Instructions
- Training of operators, for current procedures relating to Control Plans, Work and Gage Instructions.
- Training an manage APT leaders for quality activities (e.g. quality alerts, non conforming handling material, containments, 5Why's, FRM's, etc.
- Understand and provide interpretation of GD&T data
- Lead problem solving efforts relating to production quality issues
- Initiate GP-12 or 3rd party specific containment relating to quality issues
- Gage R&R studies for After Production Engineering Changes
- Maintain in readily retrievable fashion any documentation required for product quality and nonconformance resolution.
- Maintain control plans and other required documentation for product and process management, insuring that the customer specific requirements are identified, communicated and implemented.
- Maintain gage instructions for assigned products that are on time accurate, repeatable, complete, usable by the assigned operator. Ensure that operators have instructions, tools and understanding of the requirements and operation of measurement systems.
- Identify and implement process improvements
- Facilitate the development of continuous improvement activities that result in the improvement of product quality, process control and/or a reduction in product or process costs. This includes understanding and tracking of process/part capabilites required by customer or business unit.
- Manage activities to identify and resolve product nonconformities
- Identify real and potential quality issues and facilitate the development of permanent solutions using disciplined problem solving methods, reporting as required and in the format required by the customer. Verify that implemented product or process corrective actions are effective.
- Implement process or product deviation actions communicating with the customer as required. Manage dispensation activities for any nonconforming or suspected nonconforming product, notifying customer as required.
- Participate in the problem solving activities to drive permanent corrective actions for internal and supplier quality incidents. *
- Lead problem solving activities for external quality incidents. Participate in corporate problem solving activities to drive systematic and permanent preventive actions for corporate-wide issues.
- Review gage and part layout inform making decisions and implementing corrective actions to ensure product quality is no compromised.
- Identify and analyze issues related with QMS using problem solving tools and proposing corrective actions; analyzing and improving product quality.
- Maintain and monitor the QMS, identifying key operations, implementing SPC, measuring quality metrics, verifying the quality policy and procedures compliant.
- Lead and promote compliance with LPAs audits and follow up on findings and closure of corrective actions.
- Manage implementation and monitoring of the Shape Excellence System with the entire multidisciplinary team.
This position is responsible for the following KPI's:
1. Customer complaints (PPMs)
2. Scrap cost vs. Sales (%)
3. Reliability of Quarantine, Quantity and Cost. (Physical vs. Plex)
4. Quarantine in target
