Job Description

Human Factors Researchers partner with internal product teams on user interface design and usability to ensure our products are both safe and effective. The Human Factors Researcher engages with product teams throughout the product development lifecycle, from discovery to implementation. You will conduct quantitative and qualitative research studies to understand the context in which an improvement may be made, elicit end-user needs for that improvement, and validate the success of a design against established usability goals.

Specifically, you will work closely with UX Design to ensure that functional and end-user needs are met, internal standards are adhered to, heuristics are appropriately applied, and risks are mitigated with strategies inherent to the design. You will analyze the data from the research studies you facilitate and synthesize that data into research findings.

The Human Factors Researcher is responsible for ensuring that the user is at the heart of user-centered design at Oracle.

Basic qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Ergonomics, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Engineering, Informatics or related field with 7+ years' experience doing qualitative and quantitative research
  • Strong scientific background with a foundation in research methods, cognition, ergonomics, perception, and human decision-making
  • Solid understanding of human factors concepts, usability principles, and interface design best practices
  • Be proactive, organized, and have the ability to multitask and work well under time pressures
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a fluency in English
  • Able to distil research insights into audience-appropriate formats that drive a shared understanding of opportunities and risks

Preferred qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Psychology, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline with 5+ years' experience doing qualitative and quantitative research
  • Experience conducting research to inform and/or evaluate the design of electronic healthcare, and/or other safety-critical systems
  • Familiarity with relevant human factors standards and regulatory guidance pertinent to healthcare systems
  • Familiarity with research platforms and tools such as UserZoom, User Testing, Qualtrics, etc.

  • Design and lead complex research studies that build upon previous findings, and contribute to continuous design improvement across multiple projects, while adapting to and working within project and organizational constraints
  • Influence and gather stakeholder requirements and contribute to their translation into innovative designs that support usability and safety goals.
  • Work with program managers to recruit representative participants and coordinate research activities with end-users
  • Anticipate, identify, and influence the mitigation of safety hazards throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Define and defend the usability and safety goals for a product group and influence the integration of goals and research findings into products.
  • Mentor team members and collaborate with stakeholders to provide education and feedback using human factors expertise and established usability principles.
  • Deliver compelling presentations of research findings and recommendations.
  • Willing to work additional or irregular hours as needed and allowed by local regulations.

This job requires proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal.
