Descripción
We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our Manufacturing Test and Automation Team in the development of a new generation of leading-edge, high speed, automated manufacturing test equipment for power tools. Under the direction of and reporting to the Manager of Manufacturing Test and Automation, the Sr Design Engineer is responsible for building upon established standards as well as the mechanical engineering aspects of design, testing, and start-up for our manufacturing test solutions. Our projects include custom automated assembly and/or test machines, along with continuous production processes.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Design and deploy innovative solutions; implement sustainable, robust and reliable complex manufacturing test and validation processes
* Generate 2D and 3D concept CAD models for quoting purposes
* Use SolidWorks to create Assemblies, Weldments, Parts, and drawings
* Provide multiple design concepts for trade-off discussions in finding the ideal solution for cost, quality, and delivery
* Provide automation design for conveyor systems and mechanisms
* Mechanical/pneumatic/plumbing BOM and diagram creation
* Create individual and assembly detailed part drawings for fabrication/assembly
* Procurement of machined components
* Strong analytical skills, knowledge, and experience in process evaluation tools: Design of Experiments (DOE),
Finite Element Analysis (FEA), PFMEA, DFMEA, statistical data analysis, risk analysis, flow layout and other related engineering tools
* Work with Advanced Development & New Product Development design engineers to evaluate and advise product design for optimized testability and manufacturability
* Research and evaluate new technologies and breakthrough processes to accelerate competitive manufacturing advantage
* Utilize prototyping methods to develop and prepare engineering samples for evaluation and testing
* Perform a variety of calculations and software aided analyses to prove process reliability, capability, and sustainability
* Develop designs for integration to existing equipment and new turn-key equipment
* Maintain accurate parts database
* Design with lean intent/design for manufacturing (flow, ergonomics and safety of production associates)
* Project Management Skills
* Ability to lead manufacturing test automation projects, providing direction, guidance, and engineering expertise to team members
* Facilitate creation of Test CTQ's and Test Specifications with quality, engineering, manufacturing, and other cross functional teams
Tools we Need You To Have
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent years of experience with associate's degree in related Mechanical design engineering disciplines
Experience with advanced control systems used to automate manufacturing processes including pneumatics used in motion control, programmable controllers, sensors, vision systems, and robotics
* 5+ years of mechanical design for manufacturing automation equipment
* Engineering knowledge of design of industrial machinery with varying levels of automation
* Must be flexible and willing to adapt to changes and short deadlines
* SolidWorks proficiency required
* Strong aptitude for mechanical design
* Versed in GD&T, welded steel structures, and various machine components (motors, shafts, bearings, cylinders, etc)
* Well-rounded engineering knowledge for complex system design and development
* The ability to work well with people and independently, problem solver, organized, good written and verbal skills, strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and multi-task
* Experience working with machines, selecting components, analyzing fit form and function required Experience with precision indexing (rotary or link) desirable
* Experience with fluid dynamics a plus
* Knowledge of common manufacturing processes and hands-on experience machining parts using standard equipment such as mills, lathes, CNC machines
* Ability to be interactive "hands on" with each upcoming engineering project
* Travel to domestic and international sites for on-site commissioning and testing support 5-15%
* Must be fluent in English
