Summary

The Manufacturing Unit HSE Manager's main responsibility is implementation and governance of the organization's HSE management system. The position owns the process of deployment of HSE into the manufacturing plant and will be involved in local training, audits, reporting and governance of the system.

The Site HSE Manager is a member of the regional management team and will report solid line to the Regional HSE & Quality Manager, Consumables Rubber/Polymet Supply Chain and dotted line to Manufacturing Unit Manager Irapuato, Rubber/Polymet Supply Chain.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure that the organization's HSE management system conforms to regulatory/legal requirements, as per Occupational Health and Safety Act and HSE management direction, and is cascaded down to the manufacturing unit.
• Support Procurement with evaluation of and reporting on suppliers/vendors/contractors HSE management systems as needed.
• Will be the manufacturing unit's main contact for all HSE questions coming from local/regional, and global authorities, thus also owning the tasks to reach Metso's sustainability targets.
• Will be responsible for compliance of local environmental legislation in the region.
• Oversees all inspections as directed by HSE Management, including internal/external audits in the region, ensuring that requirements are met.
• Report to management on the performance of the management systems (Ie. Results of audits, corrective actions and need for improvements).
• Conduct periodic review meetings.
• Responsible for upholding Metso's global and business line HSE requirements for the manufacturing unit, training, and coaching initiatives required.
• Keep up on standards (internal and external), laws and regulations as well as news to improve the management systems.
• Develop, coach, and mentor local manufacturing supervisors, teams, and department heads.
• Continuously develop HSE management systems
  • Continue and facilitate LEAN 6 Sigma implementation - strategic for Rubber and Polymet.
  • Contribute to continuously standardizing and developing processes with local, regional and global organization
• Networking
  • Work with global Manufacturing Engineering organization and local manufacturing unit Department Heads to continuously develop HSE.

• Develop people
  • Provide HSE tools and competence to raise the R&P manufacturing unit to world class.
• Other regular leadership & management tasks defined by Metso or HSE Management.
  • Participate in Strategic and annual planning
  • Health, Safety, Environmental ambassador

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities

Employees are expected to adhere to Metso's established Leadership Principles.

Travel

Up to 20% travel may be required for this position, including international travel, with normal duration of 1 to 2 weeks.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred, but not a requirement, or you have ten years' experience in leading within a manufacturing/industrial environment.

Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, 5S principles

Proven leadership and management experience in a multi-site environment. A background in other safety critical environments such as Mining, Construction, Power, Oil and Gas, and Aviation sectors.

Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Valid passport.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong people and leadership skills, ability to motivate and lead others.
• Capability to support local teams regarding HSE implementation. Good understanding of written and verbal English language.
• Strong relationship building skills.
• Knowledge of HSE development and trends.
• A good level of computer skills is essential - Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams.
• Highly motivated and focused individual.
• Ability to work on own initiative and meet deadlines.
• Proven ability to develop and execute successful HSE strategies.

Essential Physical Job Functions and Work Environment

Approximately 50% will be administrative and completed in an office environment. About 50% of the work will be in the factories performing audits and providing training and coaching.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers and talk or hear.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Visual acuity is required to read and produce accurate materials.
• The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance.
• Climbing of and working on stairs and ladders.
• Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (25 kgs)
• Wear appropriate PPE that might include safety glasses, dust masks, safety boots, face shields, etc.
• Ability to hear audible horns
• Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes, airborne particles, and loud noise.
