We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to join our team in Mexico. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing direct and indirect taxes and providing local accounting support to the Regional Shared Service Center to ensure compliance with local regulations and the smooth operation of financial processes. Strong English communication skills are essential for this role, as the position involves collaboration with international teams.
You report to the Regional Finance Director located in the USA and work closely with the local Controller. This is not a management position.
Key responsibilities
· Tax Compliance:
o Prepare, review, and file direct and indirect tax returns (e.g. social security, VAT, income tax, withholding taxes) in compliance with Mexican tax regulations.
o Ensure timely and accurate tax payments to avoid penalties.
o Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations and implement necessary adjustments.
o Keeps close contact with government (tax) institutions.
· Accounting Support:
o Support the Regional Shared Service Center (RSSC) in ensuring all financial information is recorded on a timely and accurate basis.
o Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
o Reconcile accounts and ensure accuracy in financial records.
o Support the preparation of Cash Flows forecasts.
o Monitor compliance with Group accounting procedures and policies. Develop and enforce local accounting policies in alignment with Group practices. Ensure compliance of reporting with local and international reporting standards and tax regulations.
o Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits.
· Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain organized and accurate records of tax filings and accounting documents.
o Prepare reports for management and provide insights into tax and accounting matters.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration:
o Work closely with other departments to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
o Communicate effectively with international teams in English to address inquiries and provide updates.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Degree in accounting, finance or related field.
· Knowledge in IFRS and local accounting regulations and strong technical accounting skills.
· Proven experience in managing direct and indirect taxes in Mexico.
· Strong knowledge of Mexican tax laws and accounting principles.
· Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
· Fluent in English (both written and spoken) to communicate with international teams.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
· Knowledge of SAP HANA4 is preferred.
· At least 5 years in a accounting / tax position, preferably for a large international company
