Welding and Fabrication Tech Specialistprimary focus ensures these works & activities, either performed on site by Newmont labor, or offsite by external parties, are managed efficiently, safely and in accordance with Newmont standards and business integrity and ethics.
The Welding and Fabrication Tech Specialist role is a non-union position, within Peñasquito's Mobile Asset Management Welding & Fabrication team supporting the Superintendent and Team Leaders with provision of coordination and relevant decision making to allow the teams line management to focus on typical day to day activities without the distraction of having to coordinate extraordinary works, projects & activities.
The Welding and Fabrication Tech Specialist's role holds a similar level of functionality to that of a Team Leader but holds a focus on process coordination rather than responsibility for direction of work execution and assignment of resources.
ResponsibilitiesThe role embraces a strong commitment to safety as the top priority and to ensure activities maintain compliance with all applicable Newmont, Newmont Penasquito & relevant Government policies, standards, procedures and guidelines.
Gaining and maintaining an awareness of longer term planned maintenance strategies and activities to ensure components and equipment are available in readiness to meet strategic plans
Gain and maintain an awareness of upcoming dipper, dipper door, bucket, blade and dump truck body refurbishment requirements and working with the Superintendent, Team Leaders and Planning support to ensure:
Adequate work scopes and quality standards for repairs, refurbishments or fabrications related to Newmont components are defined and developed.
Assisting the Superintendent is determining whether internal or external resources will complete the necessary works.
Work Orders and or Work Order Requisitions are made ready in the Newmont SAP database
Assisting the Supply Chain Group in defining suitable external parties for invitation to quote on repairs, refurbishment or fabrication work scopes
Assisting the Superintendent and Supply Chain Group on analyzing the best suitable external party for refurbishment, repair or fabrication works and subsequent award of purchase orders.
Acting as the primary point of contact for external agents for queries and support on relevant on repairs, refurbishment or fabrication work scopes.
Ensuring Newmont supplied materials, equipment or resources are provided to both internal and repairs, refurbishment or fabrication work scopes. This includes reservations for materials and parts, planning of cranes and organizing of planning personnel or other work group assistance where required.
Responsibilities 2Managing work scope change to ensure any necessary changes are reviewed and agreed upon and Supply Chain purchasers are contacted to make necessary work order changes.
Where and when necessary identifying suitable internal or external quality control agents and engaging their services to ensure quality control and quality assurance (welding. machining, alignment, distortion control, material suitability, etc.)
Organizing quality control visits to review works in progress and ensuring appropriate personnel and resources are involved.
Ensuring timelines are being met or reconciled for both internal and external work projects and communicating any changes to the Superintendent and Planning group so further reconciliation against planned component changes can be performed.
Ensuring acceptance of scope completion and quality is performed prior to job completion processing and payment is commenced.
Maintaining cost awareness and cost control and communicating changes or potential issues to the Superintendent.
Overall management of the Toolstore operating strategy and resources. Liaising with Team Leaders to ensure effective management and continual improvement of the tool store is maintained.
Coordinating, through the tool store strategy, planned inspections of fall prevention equipment, electrical tools and equipment, lifting and load support equipment in accordance with Newmont fatal risk and Newmont Penasquito standards.
Participation in conflict resolution within relevance to the role responsibilities.
Supporting the Soldadura team through contributing towards training program, safety procedural and systems development where directed by the Superintendent.
Participating in audits of maintenance management program elements and KPI's.
Developing effective relationships with other asset management teams and the Supply Chain group to successfully complement the aforementioned roles and responsibilities.
Training & Experience - Demonstrated commitment to Safety
- Tertiary education and qualifications relevant to a production, manufacturing or processing application or proven coordination experience in a similar industry application.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar industry application
- Strategic, conceptual, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skill
- Strong work ethic and be self-motivated.
- Competent computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Knowledge of Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS.) With preference given to SAP experience.
- Proficient in computer applications (MS Office - Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
Working Additional Experience & Qualifications - Fluency in Spanish language required. Conversational English preferred but not necessarily required.
- The Welding and Fabrication Tech Specialistrequires a current Mexican drivers license.
