Knowledge:
• Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in Mining Engineering
• Advanced used of mine planning software (Mine Plan preferred)
• Open pit mining experience
• In depth knowledge and application of short term mine planning approaches employed by the industry
• Monitor systems for efficient mining operations including engineering, surveying, drilling, blasting, ore control, loading, hauling, and ancillary support
At the level of day-to-day or shift-to-shift planning, decisions around what material (from available broken stock) is fed into each crusher or processing plant are made, with the objective of achieving a daily production target and meeting other relevant key performance indicators (KPIs).
Shift-to-shift and day-to-day decision-making determines the number of truckloads of material to extract from each available block, and the crusher to which the material is sent, in order to meet daily quantity and quality targets on production.
Experience:
• Three to five years' experience in mining
• Demonstrated experience working with the minerals industry on technical and feasibility issues as they relate to short term mine planning.
• Knowledge and competency in mine planning software
• Proven ability to participate in a multidisciplinary team of mining industry professionals to rapidly develop solutions
• Experience in formulating, planning and leading complex projects and work programs.
• Excellent written, verbal and multimedia communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and deliver exceptionally high-quality work.
• Superior interpersonal skills and an ability to work with people at all levels with a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with minerals industry personnel.
Skills and Abilities:
• Strong analytical skills with sound judgement and decision-making ability
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Strong interpersonal skills; self-motivated with ability to work productively in both individual and group settings.
• Ability to manage a path to resolution despite conflicting goals of various functions and stakeholders.
• Strong leadership skills and experience.
• Language skills (English + Spanish), though not a requirement but will be looked at favorably.
• Must have valid drivers' license, or ability to obtain this.
• Incumbent is based primarily in an office-based environment, which requires a continuous need for a high degree of concentration when dealing with numbers, scheduling, mine plan generations and mine designs.
• Highly organized and proactive team player with ability to multi-task
• Communicate and work closely with mine operations management
• An ability to communicate and present information in a manner that is clear and understandable

Purpose
- The short-term planning engineer is responsible for organizing and calculating the activities of the loading and hauling equipment based on the monthly commitments and will be in charge of carrying out the engineering for decision-making and being able to achieve the sulfide projections.
- The Short-Term Planning Engineer will be responsible for managing the daily operations planning and engineering of the mine, including mill feed scheduling and ore grade data delivery, and will provide support to the mine operations departments for the decision making within the mine and the waste dumps.
Essential Duties
Leadership Results
- Promotes safety at Newmont. Acts safely on a personal basis and encourages safe practices with others in the team.
- The Mining Engineer will provide daily oversight and technical support to ensure mine production requirements are met, in the short and long term, efficiently and safely.
Management/Business Results:
Operational Execution
- Develop daily and weekly mine plans from ore control reserve models.
- Develops and is responsible for the planning, reporting, development and execution of mine plans, including mine safety, quality screening, equipment recommendation, volumetry, resources, sequencing, programming and environmental considerations.
- Develop and recommend safe transit routes in the medium and short term
- Determine the optimal fleet of heavy mobile equipment based on production requirements, site-specific conditions, and ramp and bench configurations.
- Prepare a Dispatch data reconciliation Monthly Report vs topography.
- Other related functions assigned by management
- Able to travel be on site.
Planning and Analysis
- High verifiable commandd of AutoCAD and Excel.
- Proven ability to learn and effectively use Mine plan 3D software.
- Ability to speak in large groups of people to explain mining plans
- Ability to establish positive relationships with all mine departments.
- Competent and effective verbal and written communication skills (English and Spanish).

Working Conditions
- The position is located in Minera Peñasquito in Zacatecas, Mexico; and the applicant must be willing and able to live in a mine camp for extended periods of time depending on work schedule.
- Position may be required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites.
- Must be willing and able to comply with health and safety standards, company policies and procedures, and Newmont environment policy
- Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including walking on rough, uneven, and wet terrain
- Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment, including helmet, steel-toed shoes, safety goggles, respirators, self-contained breathing apparatus, earplugs, gloves, or any other equipment to perform the task safely
