The role of the Assistant Director of Engineering
The Assistant Director of Engineering reports to the Director of Engineering and is responsible for project management and property maintenance. This role supports the Director in managing a team of Engineering and Maintenance specialists and is responsible for all engineering operations to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and employees.
The successful candidate will have the technical knowledge and experience to manage a team of specialists in the areas of plumbing, refrigeration, heating, cooling, painting, carpentry, landscaping, structural requirements and local codes, recycling, electrical, industrial equipment, landscaping and water plant. This position requires an eye for detail, the ability to organize and execute a strategic plan, meet deadlines, ensure safe work practices and recognize problems and offer practical, effective solutions.

The role of the Assistant Director of Engineering
The Assistant Director of Engineering reports to the Director of Engineering and is responsible for project management and property maintenance. This role supports the Director in managing a team of Engineering and Maintenance specialists and is responsible for all engineering operations to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and employees.
The successful candidate will have the technical knowledge and experience to manage a team of specialists in the areas of plumbing, refrigeration, heating, cooling, painting, carpentry, landscaping, structural requirements and local codes, recycling, electrical, industrial equipment, landscaping and water plant. This position requires an eye for detail, the ability to organize and execute a strategic plan, meet deadlines, ensure safe work practices and recognize problems and offer practical, effective solutions.
Knowledge and Skills
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanics, Electrical.
- Three (3) to five (5) years previous experience in Engineering department head positions in a 5-star luxury environment
- Previous experience in Residences or HOA Engineering preferable
- Requires reading, writing and oral proficiency in English and Spanish language.
- Good knowledge in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, electricity and painting; Strong Time Management skills to meet deadlines and timely response.
- Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet, Windows. Experience with computer systems and management of computer-assisted maintenance, such as, BMS, Autocad, etc.).
- Maintains a professional appearance and behaves in a mature manner with integrity and transparency at all times.
- Understand and familiar with quality standards and service standards of the hotel
- Experience in employee engagement, employer branding, onboarding will be advantageous
- Reasonable cost analysis and cost management skills
- Apply an ethical approach to the outcome of situations
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with cross-functional teams
- Problem-solving, decision-making and conflict resolution skills
- Work in a safe, prudent and organized manner
- Must be available for emergencies during days, evenings, holidays and weekends.
- Proven previous experience in the luxury hotel industry or similar role.
- Proven previous experience on Team leading up to 45 employees of all specialties.
Essential Functions
- Supervise all the operating responsibilities, coordinating efforts and establishing priorities where necessary
- Ensure all relevant Four Seasons standards, policies and procedures are developed, implemented and actioned
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all physical assets within the resort and ensure appropriate condition reporting to Director of Engineering.
- Project management and coordination of engineering department staff and outside contractors to complete projects without disruption to guests or other departments
- Resolves residents' complaints, handling all interactions with the highest level of hospitality and professionalism, accommodating special requests whenever possible. Responds to all residents' requests in an accurate and timely manner.
- Excellent understanding of Month-End Process including, but not limited to, preparation of financial statements, accruals and journal entries. Budget and Forecast preparation.
- Manage and assist with all purchasing needs for Engineering aligning with properties needs as well as financial goals
- Assist in the hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, counseling, and evaluation of performance and planning the activities of maintenance staff including making spot checks on a daily basis.
- Participate in and develop staff training programs in order to minimize staff turnover and maintain high morale. Particular emphasis should be given to those individuals qualifying for future advancement
- Meet with the Director of Engineering on a regular basis to communicate all operation activities and results
- Ensure proper and timely execution of all work order requests with follow up, accountability, and reporting.
- Ensure utility data is reported in Hotel Energy Portal (HEP) monthly, and that progress towards environmental goals are reviewed in Green Team meetings.
- Work across all departments to ensure achievement of the annual ESG Field Goals and KPIs.
- Provide technical advice and implementations on Health and Safety requirements.
- Leading by role model share best practices with team and care about their works and needs.
- Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers.
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
- Support the Director of Engineering with major renovation projects.
- Assist with maintenance of all firefighting equipment in first class order and ensure that emergency procedures are understood and practiced by hotel staff.
- Actively support the Safety Committee.
