Position Summary
HIAS seeks two research assistants to work in a project led by HIAS, Columbia University, and El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF). The primary aim of the project is to find out the risk and protective factors for common mental disorders among populations during migration. This study consists of a pilot cohort study among migrants and asylum seekers in Mexico.
Research Assistants will be responsible for recruiting participants, managing consents and other research ethics procedures. Conduct qualitative and quantitative interviews and answer questions from research participants; record data and perform quality checks on data recording. The study procedures will be carried out in person.
Research assistants will report these activities to the research program officer regularly whether in person or remotely.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelors level background in health and social science research and/or psychology, social work or related field (Graduate degree preferred)
Professional interest in public health, health research, mental health, protection, and refugee/migrants health
Minimum 1 year experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection
Excellent proficiency in English and Spanish (speaking and writing proficiency)
Proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Word and Excel (experience with R, Stata, SPSS or similar software preferred)
Excellent social and communication skills and ability to build rapport with people
Detail-oriented individuals able to work both independently and with a team
