TRADE COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST
About the Role - The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the company's trade operations and transactions comply with all applicable local and international trade laws and regulations. Working across industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and retail, this role is crucial for minimizing risk, maintaining operational integrity, and supporting global business initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in International Business, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Law, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in trade compliance, customs operations, international logistics, or a related area.
- Strong understanding of international trade regulations (e.g., USMCA, )
- Proficient in conducting regulatory research, risk assessments, and compliance audits.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex regulations to non-expert audiences.
- Proficiency with trade management software, ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high ethical standards.
- Experience working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other third-party compliance providers.
- Familiarity with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, and duty drawback programs.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is a must.
Responsibilities:
Research and Regulatory Analysis:
- Continuously research, monitor, and analyze local and international trade regulations to ensure the company's compliance. Provide clear, actionable guidance to business units on regulatory requirements.
Policy Development and Implementation:
- Develop, update, and implement trade compliance policies and procedures. Conduct training sessions to promote employee awareness and understanding of compliance responsibilities.
Documentation and Recordkeeping:
- Maintain comprehensive records related to trade compliance activities, including licenses, permits, certifications, and audit reports. Ensure all documentation is current, organized, and readily accessible for audits.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential trade compliance issues. Develop and recommend strategies to mitigate risks and ensure proactive compliance management.
Monitoring and Investigation:
- Monitor import, export, and domestic trade activities for compliance with regulations. Investigate potential violations or discrepancies, recommend corrective actions, and work with relevant stakeholders to implement resolutions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with legal, finance, supply chain, procurement, and logistics departments to integrate trade compliance measures into company operations.
Regulatory Change Management:
- Stay informed of changes to trade laws and regulations and adjust company policies and procedures accordingly. Communicate updates clearly and effectively to impacted teams.
Drive Duty Drawback Program
- Develop and execute entry audit program in conjunction with US Broker.
