This position is responsible for assisting with the Fall Creek breeding and variety development program in Tala, Jalisco. Requires working in greenhouses for extended periods of time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

• Responsible for the accurate field data collection, recording, data entry, and extraction in the database to support the variety development program.
• Planting, field mapping, tagging, and recording of seedlings and selections.
• Assists with field fruit evaluations.
• Assists with controlled crosses and grows seedlings including emasculation, pollination, tagging, and record keeping in field and greenhouse settings.
• Provides routine care and maintenance of plants used as parents in controlled crosses, R&D foundation plant collection, and breeding inventory.
• Responsible for shipping of plants to trial sites.
• Performs tissue collection for clonal propagation and keep accurate records of each selection.
• Responsible for plant tissue/media sampling and obtaining phytosanitary permits for import/export of plant material. Works closely with sales, propagation, and logistics.
• Responsible for potting, routine cultural care, inventory, and quarantine inspections of new plant introductions.
• Assisting the Molecular Biology and Pre-breeding team, and the True to Type (TTT) program with laboratory work, tissue culture, tissue collection, and phenotyping activities as needs arise.
• Assisting the Farm Manager with routine horticultural management and fruit.
• Prepares periodic progress reports summarizing performance of breeding program selections.

What you bring to Fall Creek:

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS.

• Bachelor's degree in horticulture, botany, or related field in a breeding program, nursery environment, or other horticultural operation.
• Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
• Solid knowledge and experience working with the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to provide detailed reporting using Excel spreadsheets.
• Strong alpha-numeric data entry skills. Requires general database knowledge.
• Time management and accountability.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Working experience in field management, preferably with blueberries.
• Experience in a technical or research position.
