Job Description

Our Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS) team designs, validates and delivers the wiring harnesses, connectors and junction boxes that power our vehicles worldwide. We're constantly innovating to boost reliability, reduce costs and elevate the customer experience-whether through cutting-edge test methods, streamlined supplier processes or proactive quality-by-design.
Responsibilities
As a Product Development Champ in Electrical Distribution Systems, you'll be working on a self-directed project with a clear business impact-think reducing warranty claim rates or trimming warranty costs for our vehicle electrical systems.
What you'll do:
Learn Ford's Global Product Development System and our Quality Operating System
Apply root-cause tools (5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA/DFMEA) to real field data
Drive corrective actions upstream-in design, testing or supplier processes
Present findings and recommendations to cross-functional teams
Key Responsibilities
Partner with Warranty Data Analytics to identify the top EDS failure modes driving claims or costs
Lead a DFMEA or Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) effort focused on a selected harness/connector family
Design and execute targeted test plans (environmental, vibration, electrical endurance)
Interface daily with Design Engineering, Supplier Quality and Manufacturing to implement improvements
Develop and maintain core quality documents: P-Diagrams, Control Plans, Robustness Checklists, etc.
Track project milestones, budget (if any) and deliver a final business-case presentation
Share lessons learned and update our internal quality dashboards
Expected Outcomes
Measurable reduction in warranty claims R/1000 for your scoped components.
Estimated warranty cost savings of at least $XX,000 over 12 months
One or more corrective actions adopted into standard design or supplier-management processes
A fully documented project "playbook" for future EDS quality initiatives
Qualifications
Active student from any of the last 4 semesters of Electrical, Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
90% English skills (Oral, reading, writing, and listening)
Critical thinking.
Strong analytical mindset; comfortable with data tools (Excel, Minitab, Power BI, Python/R, VBA)
Basic understanding of automotive wiring harness design and test methods
Good verbal and written English; able to present technical material to varied audiences
Proactive, detail-oriented and able to balance academics with a part-time job
Preferred
Hands-on experience with quality methodologies (FMEA, 8D, 3L5W, DMAIC)
