Product Design Engineer - Automotive

· Associates Degree in Drafting or Design Technologies required. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for degree.

· Minimum of ten years prior experience in drafting/design.

· Advanced understanding of manufacturing minimum process requirements.

· Expert in the use of multiple CAD systems and/or expert in 3D design of metallic/plastic products.

· Advanced knowledge in vehicle and component packaging.

· Advanced knowledge in vehicle performance requirements related to work designs.

· Must display leadership capabilities of innovation, people development, character, strategy and results.

· Must display fundamental capabilities of teamwork, problem solving, customer focus, communication and respect

Position Summary: Utilize Unigraphics NX CAD and/or CATIA V5 software to develop initial concepts into CAD designs for OEM Programs.

Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following:

· Manage development projects.

· Work closely with Product Development Engineers to design concepts that meet customers needs and requirements.

· Develop departmental databases and personal time logs for tracking and reporting purposes.

· Perform advanced CAD functions.

· Provide CAD math data transfers, e.g., FTP sites, customer portals, etc for the company's internal and external customers.

· Manage relevant CAD files in our controlled systems.

· Resolve CAD issues and drive continuous improvement based on industry trends/research.

· Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and work instructions related to design work.

· Establish and maintain departmental processes and design/drafting standards.

· Act as escalation point for questions or concerns related to designs.

· Set direction for and drive departmental and corporate meetings as required.

· Develop accurate engineering bill of materials to support assigned projects.

· Establish strong relationships with our internal and external customers.

· Develop appropriate level of customer PDM knowledge to pull/push data as required.

· Mentor and coach less experienced team members.

· Manage and prioritize day-to-day activities.

· Assist with resource and capacity planning for the Product Design team.

· Provide input into the Strategic Planning process for Engineering and help drive strategic plan and priorities.

· Work within the our core manufacturing processes, launch process, vehicle design packaging, GD&T, DFMEA, Design for Manufacturing and product performance knowledge methodologies.

· Identify and train a back-up(s) to manage key tasks when absent.

· Additional functions not specifically outlined in this position description as directed by the leader.
