Title: Technician, Environmental Health & Safety
Job Summary
Under direct supervision of EHS Supervisor actively supports the daily operation of company´s Environmental, Health & Safety programs. Provides support and oversight for key EHS programs as assigned. Emphasis will be in the management of EHS legal compliance, safety programs, emergency preparedness/response, chemical handling, EHS education. Works independently or as a team member as directed by supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards with: Company requirements, compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety Laws and Regulations (SEMARNAT, STPS, Civil Protection, Estate Environmental Agency).
- Ensures all Company operations and services meet Company's policies and Mexican regulations.
- Perform legal procedures with government agencies.
- Participate in internal, external and government audits related EHS.
- Chemical management: MSDS, inventories, storage, labeling.
- Ensure compliance with air and water pollution control according to regulations.
- EHS compliance accordingly with EHS annual plan.
- Incident investigations, problem solving, and root cause analysis and corrective actions follow up.
- Document and maintain records of EHS KPI.
- PPE assessment and management.
- Hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Environmental aspects assessment.
- Develop and implement EHS procedures.
- EHS suppliers management.
- Waste management.
- Active participation in emergency response brigades.
Frequency Task List
· Daily
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards including Company Compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety Laws and Regulations policy document.
- EHS training to all employees based on EHS annual training program.
- Chemical safe usage surveillance (handling, usage, labeling, MSDS, inventory control and disposal).
- Daily walk-through of all production areas identifying and correcting environmental and safety deficiencies.
- Document safety alerts, perform incident investigation and follow up corrective actions.
- Belongs and active participation with Emergency Brigades.
- Perform and participate in awareness EHS campaigns.
- Provide exceptional internal and external customer service with a customer-focused attitude.
- Timely and professional communication.
- Work as a team in a professional and dignified manner.
- Hot work permits, work at heights permits, confined space permits.
- Coordinate internal suppliers (janitorial, waste collectors).
- Ensure all operations meets Company's policies and EHS Mexican regulations.
- Surveillance of contractors safety rules.
- Support special projects assigned by the EHS Supervisor, including emergency procedures, risk assessment, cost reduction, and environmental risk reduction.

- o Ensure chemicals for janitorial activities.
- o Ensure chemicals for Company's operations process.
- o Follow up EHS actions for improvement.
- o Conduct meetings with supervisors to improve EHS management.
- o Analyze EHS data and trend.
· Monthly
- Hazardous waste disposal.
- Health and Safety Committee audits.
- EHS saving initiatives.
- EHS campaigns.
- EHS KPIs
Authority to Act
- Adhere to Company policies.
- Individual acts under the direction of the EHS Supervisor. Individual is expected to work independently. Work is periodically reviewed for timely completion, compliance with company policy and regulatory requirements and adequacy to meet departmental and company objectives set forth by the EHS Supervisor.
- The EHS Supervisor may assign work activities and advisory for better performance.
- In case of emergency situation where the result of the emergency could result in a serious injury, loss of life or property damage, the Sr EHS Specialist has the authority to stop the activity that may result in the emergency and then inform management.
- In the event a company policy is being violated that does not constitute an emergency, the Sr EHS Specialist shall notify management of the violation and advise employees of requirements.
- EHS Supervisor shall review written communication outside the EHS department prior to distribution.
- Authorized to schedule waste/recycling/destruction pickups and then notify EHS Staff, and security as required, of scheduled pickups.
- Authorized to develop policy for assigned projects with the review and approval of the EHS professional staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of hazardous waste management based on regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of special waste handling (recycling) based on regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of air & water pollution control based on regulations
- Knowledge and understanding of chemical management based on regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of Lock-out & Tag-out procedure.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement EH&S training requirements.
- Basic computer skills (word, excel, power point and outlook).
- Be a team player with good communication skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate a successful track record.
- Able to work extended hours in critical situations.
- Ability to communicate in English.
- Problem solving skills, leadership and negotiation.
- Incident investigation skills.
- Skills and auditor criteria for EHS.
Education and/or Experience
- Environmental or Safety Management Certification or Associates Degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with EHS job position.
- Knowledge of SEMARNAT, STPS, Civil Protection regulations and other requirements.
- Experience with risk job analysis
- Experience with EHS KPIs.
- Experience with incident investigations.
- Experience as internal EHS auditor.
- Knowledge in EHS management system (ISO 45001, ISO45001).
Work Environment
- Occasionally required to handle hazardous materials/waste.
- Regularly exposed to dust, fumes, chemicals, outside weather conditions, and extremes in temperature, humidity, or wetness.
- Regularly is exposed to noisy areas.
- Occasionally works at heights.
- Occasionally is required to use special protective equipment.
- Regularly is required to use personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, respirators, gloves, safety glasses, earing protection.
