Descripción
Chief Accountant (Microfinance / Lending Sector)
For my client, a rapidly growing international FinTech dedicated to revolutionizing financial services in Mexico, we are searching for an experienced visionary and highly professional Chief Accountant to oversee the full cycle of accounting and tax reporting for Mexican legal entity.
Step into the heart of a financial revolution where technology meets vision, and innovation reshapes the future of money in Mexico.
You will ensure compliance with Mexican Financial Reporting Standards (NIF), support internal and external audits, coordinate with tax authorities (SAT), and align local accounting processes with group-level IFRS reporting. You will also play a pivotal role in automating and enhancing transparency across our financial reporting, while supervising and developing the local accounting team. This position is based in our Mexico City offices and reports directly to the Regional CFO and Regional CEO.
WHAT WE'RE SEEKING IN OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:
1. Minimum 5 years of professional accounting experience in Mexico.
2. 2 years as Chief Accountant or Accounting Manager in a regulated financial institution (NBFC, consumer lending, microfinance, banking, or FinTech credit card company).
3. Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
4. Certified Public Accountant (Contador Público Certificado) – preferred.
5. Deep expertise in Mexican Financial Reporting Standards (NIF) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS/NIIF).
6. Extensive understanding of Mexican tax regulations (ISR, IVA, payroll taxes) and statutory reporting to CNBV, SAT, IMSS, INFONAVIT, and FONACOT.
7. Hands-on experience with credit operations accounting—reserving allowances, interest accruals, and portfolio recovery.
8. Strong Excel skills; familiarity with BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI) is advantageous.
9. Spanish AND English – Professional working proficiency (B2/C1).
What You'll Be Doing:
1. Oversee general ledger, month/quarter closes, and reconciliations, ensuring full compliance with Mexican Financial Reporting Standards. Maintain accurate records for credit card and short-term lending portfolios (disbursements, interest, reserves, write-offs).
2. Tax Reporting & Regulatory Relations
Prepare and file ISR, IVA, and payroll tax returns on time, maintaining relationships with SAT, IMSS, INFONAVIT, and FONACOT to address inquiries and avoid compliance issues.
3. Financial Statements & IFRS Consolidation
Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for Mexico and collaborate with the regional team to roll local results into group-level IFRS reports.
4. Audit Coordination
Plan and support internal and external audits (Big 4/local firms), implement audit recommendations, and strengthen internal controls.
5. Internal Controls & Policies
Develop and enforce accounting policies aligned with NIF and IFRS, continuously evaluating controls to mitigate financial and operational risk.
6. Lending & Credit Accounting
Manage accounting for credit card receivables and short-term loans—calculate loan-loss allowances, interest accruals, recoveries—and reconcile lending portfolios with transparent delinquency records.
7. Automation & ERP Optimization
Lead process-automation projects (journal entries, reconciliations, tax calculations) and drive ERP implementation/optimization (Contpaqi, SAP, NetSuite) to improve accuracy and integration.
8. Team Supervision & Development
Mentor and grow the local accounting team—assign tasks, conduct reviews, and provide training—fostering continuous improvement and collaboration.
9. Intercompany & Transfer Pricing Compliance
Ensure accurate accounting and reporting for intercompany transactions, loan eliminations, and transfer pricing adjustments, coordinating with tax for policy compliance.
10. Cross-Functional Coordination
Liaise with Legal, Treasury, Operations, and Risk to align financial and regulatory requirements, providing data and analysis for management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
