As an Estimator, you will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and interpreting contract documents (specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for various large, complex projects. You will also be required to make assumptions based on experience when detailed plans are not provided and front-end estimating is performed based on conceptual level designs.
Structural Specific
Ability to read different types of engineering deliverables (plot plans, lay-out, structural details, schedules, structural general notes, specifications - welding, paint system, steel erection)
Complete quantity take-off depending on RFP contents
Can generate welding take offs
Can interpret historical costs and apply appropriate unit rates (Productivity)
Knowledge on Structural Fabrication, Module Assembly, Stick Built Structural Erection
Knows InEight Estimates (HD)- for entering quantities and productivity
Understand Different Corrosion Protection of Structural such as fireproofing and identify required Paint Coat Systems
Piping Specific
Can understand, review, and complete take-offs from piping drawings/quantities, including Isometrics, P&IDs, Line Designation Tables, General Arrangements and Quantity sheets.
Is proficient at entering and manipulating data in excel and InEight. Has a general understanding of piping and insulation systems and can assign durations/productivities based on historical costs.
Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering or construction-related technology, OR extensive and related field work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above.
Experience with, and strong aptitude for, various estimating software systems
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint).
E&I Specific
Can understand, review, and complete take-offs from electrical & instrumentation drawings/quantities, including Heat Trace Isometrics, P&IDs, General Arrangements, cable Tray Layouts, lighting layouts, cable schedules and Quantity sheets. Is proficient at entering and manipulating data in excel and inEight. Has a general understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems and can assign durations/productivities based on historical costs.
Qualifications
Experience using InEight Estimate/HardDollar is an asset.
Requirements
Support development of complete estimates for large, complex jobs.
Through experience and research, determine appropriate levels of effort for personnel and construction equipment to perform all types of mechanical work.
Develop and review bid packages for subcontractor and suppliers as required for the work.
Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
Reviews bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions.
