Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of Position.
Serve as an electrical controls resource driving new equipment & system introductions, process improvements and cost reduction projects.
Major responsibilities and tasks of the position.
Provide controls and electrical engineering expertise in support of new equipment & system introductions, continuous improvements, cost reductions, maintenance, and productivity improvements.
Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated automation equipment to Corning's plants on-time, on-budget, and that satisfy performance measures.
Actively participate / direct all phases of the project including design, fabrication, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel and technology transfer.
Internal subject matter expert in control systems (PLC, HMI, Motion Control Systems, Machine Vision), system integration, sensors, and electro-mechanical devices.
Ensure all controls engineering projects are documented properly with electrical drawing packages conforming to Corning standards.
Work with project team to solve automation problems, resolve project related issues, and develop fundamental understanding of technical / process requirements critical to system success
Develop control architectures and system integration requirements that will satisfy process and manufacturing requirements.
Individual must be capable of executing project assignments as well as managing projects, in a team-based environment, with minimal supervision.
Education.
Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Electrical or equivalent
Work Experience
Ideal candidate will possess a minimum of +5 years of electrical / controls experience
Experience with PLCs and HMIs programming
Equipment integration
SCADA, OSI PI Systems
Experience in manufacturing environment
Additional Skills.
Fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, control systems integration, controls, architectures, electro-mechanical drive systems, and safety systems
English proficiency
Ability to design and program motion control systems
Ability to understand and update electrical schematics
Ability to perform a machine safety risk assessment
Experienced in the design and troubleshooting of electrical control panels
Able to effectively communicate ideas and concepts to peers, subordinates and leadership within the organization and across organizational lines
Highly motivated, results oriented, and customer focused
Must be a team player in addition to making individual contributions
Desired Skills:
Beckhoff, Omron, Siemens AB PLC and HMI programming
Experience with SISTEMA / HIRA evaluations
Knowledge of SCADA (GE iFix, Ignition, or similar)
Prior experience moving a new product or process from development into manufacturing
Experience with AutoCAD, CAD Electrical
Machine vision system experience
FANUC Robotics programming
