IT Infrastructure Support Engineer

Job Description: To evaluate and implement proposed changes or additions to systems and infrastructure components including hardware, operating systems, platforms, and networking devices. Assist more experienced infrastructure or system deployment and support personnel in developing or deploying solutions. Integrate developed or purchased solutions with Caterpillar infrastructure and systems in a manner compliant with Information Security and Enterprise Architecture standards.

Job Responsibilities: This position reports to an IT Supervisor, Senior IT Supervisor or IT Manager as do other staff jobs in technical infrastructure sections. Customers may include internal Caterpillar organizations (service centers and/or worldwide business units), suppliers, dealers or other Information Technology teams or business partners.

This role understands and executes standard work to ensure the scope of services achieve and maintain appropriate level of risk and compliance to internal policies and procedures, including those relating to sustainability, cybersecurity, SOX, and IT General Controls.

Responsibilities of the incumbents are along functional lines with individual IT Infrastructure Analysts assigned new program deployment and/or maintenance of existing mainframe, personal computer, server, Local Area and Wide Area Networks and/or distributed computing systems and infrastructure. Other duties included but not limited to:

• Designs, scripts, tests, and debugs platforms of varying degrees of complexity.
• Evaluates recommended hardware or systems changes and their potential impact on the environment and execution results.
• Works on technical problem identification and resolution, including off-shift and weekend support functions.
• Works independently on infrastructure technology components that may be used by one or more applications or systems.
• Under the direction of more experienced staff, assists in the deployment of major system infrastructure, administration, and upgrades.
• Fully qualified to perform most infrastructure changes without close supervision.
• Fully knowledgeable of infrastructure components and/or current operating environment, specification development, testing, debugging and documentation.
• May perform integration tasks for infrastructure components.
• Improves deployment and support processes.
• Typically serves as a team member on one or more 6 Sigma projects.

Employee may also be responsible for performing other job duties occasionally as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• University degree
• Knowledge of current technology and methods in infrastructure requirements.
• Strong analytical skills and knowledge of computing hardware and operating system environments, and current deployment processes and tools.
• Excellent skills in developing a cooperative working relationship with others within and outside the department.
• Microsoft operating systems (desktop and server)
• Server and storage hardware
• Data networks and communications
• Advanced level of English with good oral and written communication skills.
