About you and this role
DOW is offering a unique opportunity for a Life Cycle Assessment/Techno Economic Assessment Research Specialist to join our team in Terneuzen (The Netherlands) or Seneffe (Belgium).
As part of the Engineering & Process Sciences, Core R&D team, you will support new product and process innovation, technology development, and various business-related programs. Your focus will be on life cycle assessments (LCA) and early-stage product and process cost analyses (techno-economic assessments, TEA). Core R&D serves as the LCA center of expertise for the company, influencing both internal and external perspectives on LCAs. You will collaborate closely with business partners to develop and manage LCA/TEA projects, applying LCA and TEA methodologies to guide key project decisions and support Dow's sustainability and process intensification goals.
Responsibilities
Conduct life cycle assessments in line with ISO standards, including data acquisition, compilation, calculation, interpretation, and documentation
Prepare life cycle information (e.g., water or carbon footprints) for communication to customers and other external parties
Perform early-stage technical and cost assessments using established Dow methodologies, and develop customized cost-estimating methods as needed
Stay updated with developments in relevant technologies and serve as an information resource for project teams and stakeholders
Collaborate on multi-disciplinary project teams, providing technical input and delivering results aligned with team goals
Identify sources of uncertainty in technologies and cost estimates, and apply tools such as sensitivity analyses and Monte Carlo simulations to understand potential impacts
Document assessments and project results in research reports
Present findings at technical conferences and publish in professional journals
Qualifications
Master's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related science field is required; a Master's degree or PhD is preferred.
Experience with life cycle assessment methods and tools, gained through coursework or projects.
Experience in industrial process development, including applied research, scale-up, and/or chemical manufacturing, preferably across a variety of process technologies.
Project management experience
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
