Job Description

Responsible for performing system engineering for automation process control projects based on programmable controllers, drives, motor control centers, operator/field device, instrumentation, etc. Works on project assignments that are dependent upon the Job Level (moderate to complex projects). Designs, defines and implements complex system requirements for customers and/or prepares studies and analyzes existing systems. Determines system specifications and coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system. This includes system design, system engineering, hardware engineering, programming, factory testing, commissioning and start-up. Identifies, analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies. Develops and recommends corrective actions.

This role serves as the lead engineering resource of the project team that delivers process control systems in line with Sensia process strategy and customers' goals and objectives. The purpose of the Lead Engineer position is to lead/implement standard and complex process control solutions to successful completion while focusing on continuous improvement of margin, customer satisfaction, schedule, quality and safety performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Functional
    • Analyzes customer's requirements to determine the optimal process control system solution and determines applicable control configuration/architecture.
    • Performs conceptual process control/process safety systems design, determination of process control system strategy, design of assembled programming.
    • May provides on-site process control/process safety system start-up as required.
  • Leadership
    • Plan, schedule, coordinate and monitor resources for projects including setting and managing time-scales and budgets.
    • Provide verbal and written reports to communicate project status as required and contribute to project review meetings.
    • Visit internal/external panel manufacturing facilities to assess progress, provide technical assistance and for final inspection and sign off.
  • Interpersonal
    • Client liaison and interface with management.
    • Development and maintenance of customer relationship.
    • Team player with the ability to integrate and lead other team project members.
  • Business
    • Responsible for the overall technical design and technical scope of the systems and/or solutions in scope of the project.
    • All solutions are to be designed and implemented in complete alignment with Sensia standards, design rules and guidelines. Assure personnel safety practices are fully implemented.
    • Attends, participates in the preparation and presentation of technical papers in industry symposiums and trade shows, as applicable.
    • Coordinate customer requirements with engineering and other appropriate departments to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction is achieved.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum
    • Bachelor degree in Engineering discipline.
    • Related control systems application experience as follows;
      • Level 4: 8 years of experience
    • Experience implementing traditional DCS projects and conversions (desirable both DCS and SIS [Safety Instrumented System]).
    • Must have the ability to travel an average of about 40% of the time; however, travel can flex up to 60% a few times per year.
  • Desired
    • Experience of control system applications throughout the project lifecycle from initial design concepts through to installation and subsequent client support.
    • Experience with PlantPAx (Logix, Historian, Factory Talk View, Batch, AssetCentre, VantagePoint), AADvance, Trusted.


TYPICAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Ensure that required prerequisites (e.g. design inputs, tools, documentation, deliverables, schedule and budget) are in place prior to commencing work.
  • Provides technical leadership, support and expertise for the project team.
  • Produces and/or approves functional and detailed design specifications.
  • Develop required documents per customer standards (electrical panels, P&IDs, loop sheets, and system architecture).
  • Identify and analyze design changes and modify documents accordingly.
  • Executes project to appropriate standards and quality management system requirements.
  • Select equipment and materials to project requirements.
  • Shares technical knowledge with project team, proposal team, product business units, sales, consultants, etc.
  • Manages progress and technical problems and/or changes.
  • Acts as technical interface with customers, establishing professional relationships to ensure that the technical project requirements are fully defined, agreed and delivered within schedule and cost constraints.
  • Acts as technical interface to 3rd party suppliers to assure correct functionality of the 3rd party deliverables including the correct integration of those deliverables in Sensia solutions.
  • Ensures that the engineered solution meets project requirements, across all disciplines, in terms of functionality, Sensia standard designs & design rules, quality, and supports documentation and implementation process at minimum cost by optimizing use of global technology and productivity tools.
  • Monitors and controls technical project scope against the project plan and Functional & Detailed Design Specifications.
  • Monitors progress and performance of engineering contractor / equipment vendors during the project lifecycle.
  • Ensures effective change control and identifies risks / opportunities.
  • Reports progress and technical problems and/or changes to project manager.
  • Inspect equipment at the factory to ensure compliance with specifications and procurement documentation.
  • Attend and contribute to site and project technical meetings as necessary.
  • Assist in completion and handover documentation as necessary.
  • Lead Factory acceptance testing for customers.
  • Pre-commissioning, Commissioning and start-up support to operations.
