About the Role

The Materials Team Leader is a point of contact for all aspects of raw material planning, purchasing and coordination with the raw material planning and scheduling teams. Leads team members in day-to-day activities to ensure raw materials are acquired and delivered in the most timely and cost-effective manner possible. Leads improvement efforts with tools and techniques in the Watlow Business System and serves as the subject matter expert in material management.

Analyzes trends and reports to senior leadership, suggesting and developing strategies to optimize the supply chain processes and implement best in class practices.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for all purchasing activities, tasks, and initiatives. Collaborate with site leadership and stakeholders on effectively managing supply of raw materials to ensure high level of performance and continuity of supply. Collaborates with master planning, account management and site leadership for material availability.
  • Manage supply base costs, set standard costs, track and project PPV.
  • Engages with suppliers to ensure material deliveries in time to support production plan.
  • Provides proactive daily communication of potential part shortages and corrective actions.
  • Ensures purchasing and receiving transactions allow for seamless payment to suppliers and avoid or mitigate discrepancies.
  • Partner with strategic sourcing evaluating and monitoring contracts to ensure suppliers and vendors are complying with terms and conditions.
  • Monitoring and ensuring achieving the target levels for purchasing KPIs (PPV, Inventory Value and Turns, OTD, etc.).
  • Establishes and follows processes to effectively communicate changes in supply and demand to the supply base.
  • Review and analyze historical trends on demand/material requirements and recommend actions.
  • Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action/Problem Solving - Solve problems rapidly utilizing the RCCA process and tools, coach team member to utilize the tools as well.
  • Leads department team members to ensure that key metrics of People, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Growth are continuously being improved on to achieve strategy deployment objectives.
  • Leads, participate, and support Lean Events - Ensure that continuous improvement / lean techniques are being utilized to sustain daily operational improvement.
  • Assures Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) is effectively deployed into supply chain operations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in international business, business management, industrial engineering, or equivalent experience (5-8 years in similar job positions).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively influence all levels of management. Ability to develop procurement strategies for both direct and indirect categories. Ability to think critically and multitask with sense of urgency.
  • Ability to fluently speak and write in English.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Must be familiar and understand supplier performance metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in material management, Material Requirements Planning (MRP), pull systems, flow, and lean concepts.
  • Understanding of other supply chain fundamentals. E.g., Logistics/Trade compliance.
  • Leadership skills for decision making.
  • Proficient in excel and other Microsoft Office tools.

Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrates capability for engaging with external business partners to provide seamless linkage of supply chain processes.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills. Possess exceptional conflict resolution skills and is adept at dealing with situations involving conflict.
  • Ability to work autonomously, with very minimal direction.
  • APICS or equivalent certifications.
