Communications Manager


?Position Purpose

The Communications Manager role leads enterprise communications for Mexico by (i) guiding, coordinating, assessing, identifying key content conflicts & exercising balance between the demands of the functional areas' projects and the company's corporate communication & policy standards regarding method, consistency, clarity, style, brands/image, and compliance; (ii) enhancing AutoZone's brand, culture, and enterprise-wide initiatives and policy awareness with all in-country employees; (iii) working synergistically with its counterparts at the SSC and other functional areas across the U.S., Mexico & Brazil offices to set standards for Mexico's communication sub-groups (DataZone, DCs & stores); and (iv) being a business partner that advises management and subject matter experts.            


Primary Accountabilities

•  Leads and implements communication strategies and efforts to drive AutoZone's culture, Values, key priorities and plans by working collaboratively with other functional area managers to plan, research, design, define, coordinate, and execute standardized formal and informal communications activities and formats for wide diverse events, such as, for example, internal meetings, organizational changes, policy compliance and policy documentation standards, authoring for compliance-related content, and artwork requests/projects.

•  Outlines, develops, and delivers a wide-range type of bilingual corporate/organizational content addressed to internal and external audiences (i.e. press releases, executive speeches, executive-level presentations, organizational announcements, communication of company milestones/achievements/footprint), promoting employee engagement and compliance and sharing passion for the business and culture by ensuring the right message/information is delivered at the right time to the right audience.

•  Builds and preserves department knowledge, functionality, and reputation as reliable bilingual communications consulting resource by continuously leading, developing and strategically mentoring a strong and qualified team of corporate, policy, and visual communicators/specialists (direct reports mainly, but not solely).

•  Acts as liasion and key provider of integrated bilingual support to the communication teams in Mexico & Memphis and occasionally Brazil (i.e. translation, adaptation of AZ terminology) to ensure consistent practices across the enterprise related to the spirit and intent of AutoZone's culture and business statements.

•  Manages the development and maintenance of internal social media (Facebook AutoZone Gente y Cultura).

•  Acts as liaison with department managers in order to implement internal communication programs.

•  Performs other administrative duties like department budget and expense control; manage vendor sourcing and relationship for professional translation services, company artwork production, and Tune-In magazine printing & distribution, plus others, as assigned.


Education & Experience

  1. Level of Formal Education: A Master's degree (MA, MS, MBA) or equivalent.
  2. Area of Study: The position's field of study and/or experience follows programs such as communication; corporate & business communications; verbal & visual communication; applied communication/linguistics; organizational marketing/communication; liberal arts/studies; journalism; information system management; library and information science; business administration, engineering or related fields are acceptable with understanding of business communications principles & practices and content/information management 
  3. Years of Experience: Three to five years.
  4. Type of Experience: "Required: Superior written Spanish & English proficiency; strong analytical and organizational skills; Spanish-English conversation fluent. Skilled writing, proofing, and copy-editing at all levels of language/literacy(from technical to corporate, media and public writing); articulate, verbally and in writing; strong presentation skills; good Interpersonal, supervisory, coaching, and team-building skills; critical, creative and strategical thinking approach; solid knowledge of the overall business, corporate structure & enterprise company culture; working in administrative/corporate communication-related environments; interacting and influencing effectively at all levels of the organization; conceptualizing and extrapolating company's strategies and initiatives into clear, precise communication plans and messages; dealing with sensitive and confidential data; establishing solid enterprise processes and practices related to written corporate communication and policy dissemination; simplifying complex or technical concepts into clear, precise messages; becoming an active business partner (team player) and a facilitator to other functional areas, while working autonomously at times; managing multiple priorities & activities simultaneously and under pressure of deadlines; designing, implementing & overseeing editorial and documentary standards (related to style, corporate image, communication, retention, information retrieval, access control, et al).
  5. Special Certifications or Technical Skills: High proficiency in these MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook (including formatting & graphics); conversant with content development, presentation, and management applications & platforms; practical/working knowledge of design software applications (i.e. Adobe® Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design).
  6. Other / Preferred: User experience with web development tools (i.e. Adobe® Dreamweaver,Liferay platform). Basics of professional photography. Fluency in AP style. Copywriting. Budget, project management / event planning.
