The Research and Breeding Greenhouse Manager is responsible for R&D Greenhouse operations in Ciudad Guzman, Mexico and Trujillo, Peru. The primary objectives are seed and seedling production for our blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry crops and stage 1 rubus production. This includes all aspects of pollination, germination, marker screening, propagation, pest control, greenhouse environmental control and growing. This role requires leadership and initiative to develop plans and drive high quality results. Close collaboration with the farming and breeding teams and continued development and motivation of the Greenhouse Operations team in a dynamic work environment are keys to success. Responsibilities Develop and implement plans to deliver on breeder crossing, screening and seedling plans. Implement growing strategies including greenhouse environments, fertility and pest management programs to deliver high quality seedling and stage 1 plants to the test plots. Supervise greenhouse personnel including employee needs assessments, hiring, training and development. Nurture a work environment motivated for employee development, innovation and success. Continue implementation and development of processes to ensure reliability and high-quality plant production. Document and apply SOPs for key processes to ensure quality work and facilitate continuous improvement and employee training. Oversee tissue culture as needed for production of stage 1 plants or specific breeding objectives. Ensure strong collaboration and communication with breeding and farming. Be an advocate for safety. Work with employees to maintain a safe work environment by training and participating in safety programs, including those driven by human resources. Develop the annual budget and operate within these guidelines. Instill a safe work culture and clean stock guidelines. Other duties as assigned. Candidate Profile Bachelor's or Master's degree in Horticulture or Agriculture/Plant Sciences Five years of experience in plant production or R&D and managing people. Knowledge and experience with greenhouse growing and environmental control systems. Curious and innovative thinker to grow our operations to meet increasing needs. Problem solving capacity, demonstrating critical thinking and agility to address issues in a collaborative and timely manner. Bilingual English/Spanish required. Able to travel to the US and Peru.
