The Payroll Specialist reports to the Director of Payroll and oversees assigned stations for payroll processing.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the timely preparation and submission of weekly, biweekly, and semi-monthly payrolls, and answering employees' payroll questions.
- Works with Payroll Supervisor on audits and reporting requests as needed:

- Audits information and data flows into UltiPro by HR team members that may include salary changes, new hires, terminations, benefit, and tax changes, etc.
- Calculates retro pay and gross-ups, as needed; sets up wage garnishment and child support deductions; imports pay data files.
- Reviews timesheets for overtime calculations and research discrepancies.
- Prepares weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payroll reports for the Payroll Supervisor's review based on payroll schedule. Once payrolls are approved, submit files to payroll provider (UKG) for processing and downloads final reports.
- Distributes paychecks and funds pay cards as necessary.
- Working with the payroll supervisor reconciles accounts as necessary.
- Answers employee inquiries regarding payroll.
- Works directly with the Payroll Supervisor to remedy issues that may arise.
- Additional projects as assigned
Competencies:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Minimum 3-4 years of payroll experience.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel.
- Knowledge of child support and wage garnishment orders.
- Proficiency with Excel required.
- Ability to work on several projects at once.
- Must be detail-oriented and be able to prioritize responsibilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Solid customer service and relationship building skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when performing all job duties.
