At Equinox Engineering Ltd. in Mexico City, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Engineer/ Operations Manager proficient in English to play a pivotal role in leading and managing the engineering department, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of directing multi-discipline engineering teams within the EPC/EPCM industry.


Summary: 


The Project Engineer/Operations Manager role plays a pivotal role in supporting the Engineering Department by overseeing day-to-day technical operations, leading project teams, and ensuring the successful execution of projects within the department. Their role is both technical and managerial, bridging the gap between the department's strategic objectives and the technical work performed by the engineers.


 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that department practices align with the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Develop and use accurate, relevant financial and technical information for decision-making.
  • Define and achieve project deliverables to the highest level of quality, on schedule and within or below budget.
  • Represent the best interests of Equinox in all internal and external relationships.
  • Lead multi-discipline engineering teams in the execution of EPC/EPCM projects in the Oil & Gas sector.
  • Coordinate engineering workflows, facilitate interdisciplinary coordination, and develop project schedules and work effort estimations.
  • Execute project discipline work in their field of expertise.
  • Present confidently and effectively to senior-level clients, ensuring clear communication and understanding of project objectives and progress.
  • Utilize project management and coordination software such as Bluebeam, Navisworks, Primavera, and the Microsoft Office Suite to streamline project execution and enhance team collaboration.1

 

Department Specific Responsibilities:

  • Measure the effectiveness of departmental procedures and standards.
  • Manage client liaison activities for continuous improvement and client maintenance.
  • Lead business development efforts, including proposals and follow-up on leads.
  • Engage in short and long-term planning, including strategy planning and development.
  • Determine resource loading, work forecasts, and staffing requirements.
  • Resolve conflicts, mediate staff issues, and find solutions.
  • Conduct employee probationary and performance reviews.
  • Review and recommend employee salary adjustments and training. 
  • Manage office space allocation and office system requirements.
  • Approve timesheets.
  • Provide input into developing project and engineering procedures.
  • Provide input into the development of marketing promotional tools, brochures, newsletters, handouts, and websites.
  • Conduct bi-weekly department manager meetings.

 

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in establishing, developing, and maintaining strong client relationships and project planning and execution in oil and gas facilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Broad exposure to oil and gas facility design and construction.
  • Experience in managing multi-discipline teams.
  • Experience managing work across multiple offices.
  • Ability to resolve interdisciplinary issues and concerns within a team environment.
  • Developed local knowledge of business economics and trends in the industry.


Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15 + years total experience with a minimum of 5 years of prior work experience as Project Engineer in an EPC environment or Oil & Gas operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams remotely and in-person, fostering collaboration and achieving project milestones.
  • Proficiency in engineering workflow management, interdisciplinary coordination, schedule development, and work effort estimation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with senior-level clients and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and coordination software.
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery within the Oil & Gas industry.
