Out of our competence center in Mexico we support various IT sub functions: from ERP through Infrastructure Services or Commercial, Digital and Finance IT. Our main goal is to support Alcon's transformation journey and build a strong organization that can quickly react to a changing business environment. As a Senior Engineer - Observability you will provide senior level guidance and hands-on support of all observability operations and activities. Act as a single point of contact (SPOC) and subject matter expert (SME) for all observability technologies, ensuring their optimal stability and performance, as well as driving and proposing technology improvements. Be the driving force behind proactive, data-driven solutions, and operations using observability concepts and best practices.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
  • Design, implement, and maintain a unified monitoring environment that embraces observability concepts and best practices.
  • Utilize advanced observability tools and techniques to identify unusual patterns and behavior within IT systems so they can be addressed proactively.
  • Analyze telemetry data to ensure IT systems' health, optimal performance, reliability, and efficient resource allocation.
  • Utilize observability tools and techniques to enhance user experiences by analyzing telemetry data, optimizing performance, and reducing bottlenecks.
  • Take a proactive approach to collecting, processing, analyzing, and visualizing data from various sources within an IT system to uncover hidden patterns, detect anomalies, and optimize performance.
  • Advise IT leadership in areas of observability technologies and strategies.
  • Lead and direct observability operations team in daily activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving when issues arise.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure that the observability environment is appropriate, efficient, and effective. Be a data steward and bridge the gap between data producers and data consumers.
  • Ensure proper technical documentation is in place for observability policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Review vendor roadmaps and lead efforts to implement new technology, features, enhancements, and upgrades.
  • Ensure all changes are reviewed, approved, and executed according to quality standards as defined by IT.
  • Ensure adherence with security and compliance policies and procedures.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ALCON
  • University degree and/or equivalent work experience in implementing and supporting observability environments, concepts, and best practices.
  • 5+ years of technical experience with monitoring tools such as LogicMonitor, Dynatrace, DataDog, AppDynamics, New Relic, Splunk, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of observability technologies and strategies with the ability to clearly articulate to stakeholders.
  • Proactive and strategic in designing telemetry strategies, implementing comprehensive monitoring systems, and leveraging advanced tools to gain real-time insights and identify potential issues before they escalate.
  • Ability to derive meaningful insights from telemetry sources such as metrics, events, logs, and traces.
  • Ability to identify patterns, detect anomalies, and build a holistic understanding of system behavior.
  • Understand the concept of data producers and data customers.
  • Understand complex distributed systems.
  • Strong in English communication skills (both spoken and written).
  • Very good organizational skills with ability to handle multiple issues in parallel.
  • Understanding of other technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Nomad, Tanzu, etc.
