Description
This position is responsible for maintaining and conserving bridges and culverts in good condition, so that trains and track equipment pass through them safely.
Accountabilities
- Inspects the bridges and culverts of the assigned territory, to know the physical conditions of these, preparing a report on each one of them.
- Prepares conservation and maintenance programs.
- Supervises both the work of the bridge crews, as well as the work of third parties.
- Coordinates work that require special attention in their execution, such as: assembly and / or relief of girders, protection of embankments, etc.
- Addresses emergencies, such as bridge fires, landslides, landslides, derailments.
- Conducts tours with the Regulatory Agency (SCT) for verifications.
- Delivers reports as scheduled (daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, annual, etc.).
- Demonstrates operational excellence by knowing and applying the business requirements. Demonstrates customer focus and contingency planning to ensure stakeholder expectations are met.
- Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders.
- Identifies when a rule/regulation/policy has been violated and has one-on-one accountability conversations with an individual who has not met expectations, using KCS Candor, Aligning the Stars & KCS ABC's, and have the individual produce better results.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of Steel and Concrete Structures.
- Knowledge and command of Autocad.
- Computational Packages.
Preferred
- Civil engineer.
- Experience: 2 years in construction and / or maintenance of bridges.
- Previous Kansas City Southern experience.
Working Conditions
- Physical condition to get on and off high bridges.
- Shift work is an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support critically important railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned. Schedule assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
- Business travel is an essential requirement of this job. Employees must be able and willing to travel away from their primary work location up to 50% of the time.
