JOB SUMMARY
The Fabrication Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing all quality assurance and control activities within the fabrication department, ensuring that products and processes meet established standards, specifications, and customer requirements. This role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with quality systems, driving continuous improvement, and supporting operational excellence. The manager will lead a team of inspectors and collaborate closely with production, engineering, and other departments to resolve quality issues and implement effective solutions.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
- Oversee and manage quality assurance activities within the Fabrication department, including the Welding and Painting sub-areas.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality procedures, customer specifications, and industry standards across both sub-areas.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality control plans and inspection criteria specific to welding and painting processes.
- Monitor welding, cutting, forming, and painting operations to guarantee product quality and process consistency.
- Lead investigations into non-conformities and quality issues; drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to address and resolve quality concerns.
- Supervise and develop quality inspectors and staff within the Welding and Painting teams.
- Track and analyze quality performance metrics (KPIs) and report findings to management.
- Support internal, customer, and third-party audits, ensuring readiness and compliance.
- Maintain calibration and proper functioning of inspection equipment used in both welding and painting operations.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, quality accountability, and regulatory compliance throughout the Fabrication department.
INTERNAL & EXTERNAL INTERFACE
Internal:
- Collaborate closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and Health & Safety departments to ensure quality standards are integrated throughout the fabrication and painting processes.
- Coordinate with HR for training and development of quality personnel.
- Report quality performance and issues regularly to Quality Director and Plant Management.
External:
- Liaise with customers and third-party auditors during quality inspections and audits.
- Work with suppliers and contractors to ensure materials and services meet quality requirements.
- Manage communication with regulatory bodies related to compliance and certifications.
KPI (KEY PERFORMANCE INDEX)
Client:
- Customer complaints related to fabrication and painting quality (number and resolution time).
- Percentage of product rejections or returns due to quality issues.
- On-time delivery rate of quality-approved products to customers.
Internal Process:
- Non-conformity rate in fabrication and painting processes.
- Corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) closure rate and effectiveness.
- Audit compliance rate (internal and external).
- Calibration status and compliance of inspection equipment.
- Number of process improvements implemented in welding and painting operations.
Abilities:
- Training hours per quality team member.
- Employee competency and certification levels within the quality department.
- Team engagement and participation in continuous improvement initiatives.

QUALIFICATION & REQUIREMENTS
A. EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
- Additional certifications in Quality Management (e.g., Six Sigma, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor) are highly desirable.
B. WORKING EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality management within a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Proven experience overseeing quality in welding and painting processes is essential.
- Experience managing quality teams and leading corrective and preventive action programs.
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements.
- Experience coordinating with production, engineering, and supply chain teams is preferred.
C. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- In-depth knowledge of quality management systems and tools, including ISO 9001 standards and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Strong understanding of welding and painting processes, techniques, and quality requirements.
- Proficient in root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and problem-solving methodologies.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and quality documentation.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination across departments and with external stakeholders.
