Job Title: Manufacturing Process Engineer
Location: Saltillo, Mexico
Employment Type: Full-Time
Company Overview:
We are a leading manufacturer of precision soft trim cutting dies, dedicated to delivering high-quality products through innovative processes and continuous improvement.
Job Summary:
ODI is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Process Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and implementing manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality. This role requires a deep understanding of machining, metal forming, welding, and assembly processes, along with a proven track record of driving continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment. The Manufacturing Process Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including mechatronics engineers—to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the production process. The role leverages Lean principles and ISO 9001 standards to deliver measurable process enhancements.
Key Responsibilities:
· Process Design and Optimization: Map, design, and optimize production processes (including EDM, milling, turning, metal forming, welding, heat treating, painting, inspection, and assembly) to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times, and improve quality, utilizing Lean tools (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Poka Yoke, Jidoka (Automation with a human touch), Bottleneck Analysis, Heijunka (production leveling), Quick Changeover, Root Cause Analysis, Single Piece Flow, Hansei and, PFMEA) for continuous improvement and cost reduction.
· Develop New Processes: Assist in the development and implementation of new manufacturing processes to support product innovation, cost reductions, and operational improvements.
· Quoting: Quote new products, including required capital, labor, and tooling investments, and estimating operating expenses.
· Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with mechatronics engineers to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production equipment, ensuring continued reliable operation and rapid response to equipment issues.
· Support Production Meetings: Participate in daily/weekly production meetings to review plans, identify roadblocks and bottlenecks, and lead efforts to resolve these issues efficiently.
· Technical Support: Serve as a subject matter expert for manufacturing "how-to" questions, providing guidance and solutions to internal teams on process methods, best practices, and troubleshooting.
· Testing and Validation: Develop and conduct tests to compare new processes against existing ones, ensuring measurable gains in productivity, quality, or cost, and proposing creative alternatives if initial solutions underperform.
· Technology and Vendor Collaboration: Work with outside vendors to select tools and technology for product manufacturing and leverage supplier expertise to implement solutions efficiently.
· Equipment Commissioning: Oversee projects requiring capital equipment purchasing, plant infrastructure changes, equipment installation, training, and transitioning to full production capacity.
· Supply Chain Development: Build robust supply chains to evaluate and make informed insourcing or outsourcing decisions, ensuring viable production strategies that optimize cost, quality, and delivery.
· Material Sourcing: Proactively identify and qualify alternative materials and sources of supply in response to supply chain disruptions or shortages, ensuring continuity of operations.
· Quality Assurance: Ensure processes meet ISO 9001 standards while maintaining and improving quality through detailed documentation of changes, test results, and SOPs for audits and training.
· Leadership and Collaboration: Guide multi-disciplinary teams in adopting process improvements, leveraging persuasive communication and data-driven insights to secure buy-in and achieve successful implementation.
Qualifications:
· Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
· Experience:
o Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing process engineering, with hands-on expertise in machining, welding, inspection, and/or assembly processes.
o Proven history of optimizing processes and implementing continuous improvements in a production environment.
o Demonstrated leadership experience in guiding teams to adopt process changes.
o Must have direct experience in Lean manufacturing, including demonstrated use of tools such as: 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Poka Yoke, Jidoka, Bottleneck Analysis, Heijunka, Quick Changeover (SMED), Root Cause Analysis, Single Piece Flow, Hansei, and PFMEA.
o Demonstrated experience assisting in the development of new manufacturing processes.
o Proven ability to answer technical manufacturing "how-to" questions and provide practical process guidance.
o Experience identifying alternative materials and qualifying new sources of supply in response to supply issues.
o Experience working with, or coordinating with, mechatronics or automation engineers to ensure production equipment runs optimally.
· Technical Skills:
o Strong command of Lean methodologies and quality management systems (ISO 9001).
o Proficiency in production flow design, process mapping, and operational analytics.
o Experience in vendor and technology management.
o Knowledge of part inspection and quality assurance systems.
o Familiarity with metal forming, machining, welding, and assembly processes.
· Soft Skills:
o Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the creativity to devise innovative process solutions.
o Strong leadership and communication skills to influence and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
o Ability to interpret data, devise tests, and present findings to stakeholders.
o Proficient in English.
· Travel and Relocation
o Candidate must be willing to travel up to 25% of available working hours
o Candidate may be asked to relocate, and willingness to relocate will be an advantage to the candidate.
