Purpose of Job: Responsible for the management and execution of the design engineering functions within North America lcoations. Monitors technical matters, program costs, sufficient labor, timing, and the like to ensure successful design, development, and Launch of products.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
•Participates in quoting of new projects, including presenting designs, and preparing cost to the customer.
•Develops, monitors, documents, and ensures that key engineering quality metrics related to development, production, and customers are achieved.
•Ensures analyses at all levels of design cycle including: RFQ, prototype and production design.
•Ensures NS Quality Gate System and Design Processes are adhered to on all programs.
•Oversees the development of procedures and methods to ensure quality standards are met and maintained.
•Manages company's outside service providers to ensure quality metrics are maintained.
•Communicates requirements and resolves issues with component testing with customers, parent company test lab, and production facility test lab, as needed.
•Responsible for the overall surveillance and operation success of assigned functions and ensures coordination with other overseas company and corporate engineering functions.
•Develops, monitors, documents, and ensures that key engineering cost and productivity metrics are achieved.
•Develops annual engineering budget and program budgets including capital and non-capital expenditures.
•Creates business plans for the engineering design center and tracks progress.
•Ensures that engineering development is within budget and meeting project milestones.
•Ensures current and accurate costing in conjunction with Business Development and Finance.
•Identifies areas of process deficiency and implements improvements where warranted.
•Leads efforts in creating cost-efficient and optimized design proposals.
•Participates in the creation and implementation of the company's technical strategy.
•Reviews engineering designs and drawings to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.
•Actively investigates technology improvements and opportunities for developing new business or expanding current product line.
•Coordinates with the engineering design center Managers/Supervisors to distribute workload to all engineers.
•Provides support, direction, and technical guidance to a team of engineers, as required to maintain high engineering standards and project efficiencies.
•Interviews, hires, and trains new engineering staff.
•Develops performance goals and evaluates staffs performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
•Builds, develops, and manages an engineering team capable of carrying out engineering initiatives.
•Performance of other duties as assigned.
Team Management/Leading Others:
•Provides supervision, guidance, leadership, and training to Mechanical and Hardware Design Engineering section.
•Monitors and evaluates the performance of Mechanical and Hardware Design Engineering section, recommend
and implements personnel actions, such as hiring, promotion and dismissals.
•Trains Mechanical and Hardware Design Engineering Manager and Supervisor on policies and procedures and
create and maintain a set of current forms and approval procedures
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Hardware Engineering; Master's degree in Business Administration or Engineering preferred.
Related Experience:
•7+ years of Mechanical or Hardware engineering management experience working in the automotive industry.
•Experience working at a tier one automotive supplier preferred.
•In depth knowledge of the of product development lifecycle, including prototyping, development, test, product release and sustaining engineering.
•Experience in the development of engineering business plans, schedules, resource allocation.
•Requires an ability to think ahead and plan over a 3+ year time span.
•Experience in developing / managing technical performance measures and quantifying progress through the use of metrics.
•Technical skills in engineering management, quality assurance and costing.
